One-Stop Pop-Up
I was asked by Laurah of Sweet Grass Vintage to bring my tintype studio to her vintage market taking place at Ill-Fated Kustoms on November 4th, 2023. Packing up my little studio in my SUV definitely makes it feel like the studio ain’t so little.
I setup in a small bay that was full of motorcycles when I arrived. The fine gents of Ill-Fated moved them to the lot and I setup my lights, camera and portable darkroom.
I brought my typical tray background but opted to use the rustic wood background from Ill-Fated’s own market booth.

The wet plate collodion photographic process requires that the plates be developed before they dry. It is because of this I need to bring my darkroom with me. On location I use a dark box instead of a darkroom.

The folks who get a tintype made at a vintage pop-up market are some of the most photogenic I have experienced.
I had a blast making these plates despite the adverse conditions for a studio dweller like me.
